Seven candidates confirmed for Free & Equal gubernatorial debate at University of Chicago
CHICAGO—Seven candidates have been confirmed for the second Illinois gubernatorial debate to be hosted by The Free & Equal Elections Foundation. The event will be co-sponsored by the University of Chicago Students For A Free Society.
The debate will commence at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the Booth School of Business, 5807 S. Woodlawn Ave., at the University of Chicago.
All candidates who are running for Governor of Illinois – not only Republicans and Democrats –have been invited to participate. The current list of confirmed candidates includes: Randall Stufflebeam (Constitution), Rich Whitney (Green), Lex Green (Libertarian), William “Dock” Walls, III and Michael White (independents), and Adam Andrzejewski and Dan Proft (Republicans). Democrat Dan Hynes may also participate.
“We certainly are excited about the candidates who have already committed to join us next week, but we would like to see more from the GOP and some Democrats so that we can make this a truly all-partisan event,” Free & Equal Chief Executive Christina Tobin said. “It would be most unfortunate if the people of Illinois were to be deprived of a great opportunity to hear from a range of good ideas for their state. Any candidate who trusts the voters should be willing to debate all candidates in this race.”
In October, Free & Equal hosted its first Illinois gubernatorial debate at the Midwest Liberty Fest in which six candidates participated. Tobin moderated the debate. The moderator of this month’s debate, along with the final slate of confirmed candidates, will be announced soon.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the debate begins at 7 p.m. sharp. The venue can accommodate 250 people and seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
