All-Partisan Illinois Gubernatorial Debate Thursday, July 8

As a concerned taxpayer, it is particularly important to be an informed voter. For this reason, we at National Taxpayers United of Illinois encourage you to attend the Illinois Gubernatorial Debate at Chicago State University this Thursday, July 8, from 7pm to 9pm.

Five candidates for Governor of Illinois have already confirmed their attendance at this important event. Rich Whitney (Green Party), Scott Lee Cohen (Independent), Lex Green (Libertarian Party), William Walls III (Independent), and Michael White (Constitution Party) have all agreed to attend The Free & Equal Elections Foundation’s third debate for Illinois Governor. Free & Equal previously held two gubernatorial debates during the Illinois primary season.

Bill Brady (Republican Party), and Pat Quinn (Democratic Party) have also been invited to share their message with Illinois voters. State Senator Bill Brady and Governor Pat Quinn have not yet responded with their intentions.

Free & Equal is committed to giving all qualified candidates an equal voice in the general election debates. All invited candidates recently submitted petitions sufficient to qualify for the ballot if they did not qualify prior to the primary. Unlike the Presidential debates which are controlled by former national official with the Democratic and Republican parties, Free & Equal emphasizes having all-inclusive debates.

“Free & Equal is excited to give Illinois voters this rare chance to hear from all the candidates participating in the election for Governor of Illinois,” said Free & Equal Founder and Chair Christina Tobin. “Bill Brady and Pat Quinn have been strongly encouraged to participate and will hopefully join us for this wonderful display of democracy designed to educate voters.”

The debate will take place in the Cordell Reed Student Union Building of Chicago State University, located at 9501 S. King Drive Chicago, IL. The African American Male Resource Center, Latino Resource Center, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. are sponsoring the event.

There will be a live feed at www.freeandequal.org. The recorded debate will be available on the website Friday morning.

WGN TV News Chicago, WBBM (CBS) News Radio Chicago, and several downstate TV and radio stations are expected to cover the debate on their news broadcasts tonight. Other media sources have expressed interest, including: Illinois Times, Fox TV News, WBEZ Chicago Public Radio, Reason Magazine and Dupage radio stations.
