Chicago Olympics Terrorism Risk

Holding the 2016 Olympic Games in Chicago would make Chicago the world’s number one target for terrorists. This is a far greater threat to Illinoisans than the possibility of putting Illinois taxpayers on the hook for $7+ billion dollars, according to Jim Tobin, President of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI).“It is appalling that the physical risk to millions of Illinoisans has never been discussed or even brought up,” said Tobin. “There has not been as much as a whisper of the risk. This is the height of irresponsibility and callousness on the part of politicians and their well-connected contractors who hope to get rich on the games.”
“Remember when Chicago Mayor Richard Daley tore up Meigs Field, giving the preposterous reason that it would prevent post-September 11 terrorist-controlled aircraft from attacking the downtown waterfront nearby? Now Mayor Daley is gung-ho for making the entire Chicagoland area a target.”
“Terrorists have seven years to perfect their plans and weapons. Has anyone considered what will happen if a small nuclear device were smuggled into Chicago during the games? The result could be catastrophic, and I mean that literally.”
“If the games come to Chicago, I will not be anywhere near the city for the duration.  I will advise my organization’s members to be at least 50 miles away from Chicago during that period. I will recommend that they buy or rent a home west or northwest of the city. That way, if the worst happens, they will avoid any nuclear fallout that will be carried by the wind toward the south and east.”
