State Sen. Bill Brady Named August 2010 Tax Villain of the Month
ROCKFORD–The President of Illinois’ largest taxpayer organization today named gubernatorial candidate, State Senator Bill Brady (R-44, Bloomington) the group’s August “Tax Villain of the Month.” Speaking at a news conference in Rockford, IL, Jim Tobin, President of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI), also distributed “wanted flyers” as he outlined why Brady had earned this dubious distinction.

“Bill Brady is wasting tax dollars as we speak with his unwarranted objections to petition signatures of potential third-party candidates,” said Tobin. “Election officials have denied thousands of Brady’s objections to these signatures and, unfortunately, it’s all at taxpayer expense. Brady should come clean with the voters of Illinois about why he is wasting their money and why he is abusing our election laws for his own personal gain.”
“Bill Brady’s petition challenges are a crime against voters and taxpayers. He’s following in George Ryan’s footsteps and the people of Illinois need to be warned. Brady voted in favor of George Ryan’s $12 billion pork-laden ‘Illinois First’ program in 1999 with Yes votes on SB629 and SB630. Brady’s continued support of spending programs like ‘Illinois First’ is a major cause of Illinois’ financial problems and high unemployment.”
“Brady even attacked senior citizens with his recent vote in favor of SB3638,” said Tobin. “Brady voted to require senior citizens to re-apply for property tax relief every year. His hope is that some of the senior citizens will forget to re-apply each year and end up paying higher property taxes. SB3638 also increased property taxes on recently purchased homes and commercial properties.”
“Illinois cannot afford another career politician in the mold of George Ryan,” said Tobin. “Bill Brady has not been the taxpayer’s friend in Springfield and the voters should be wary of his tax-and spend past. NTUI is naming Bill Brady our “Tax Villain of the Month” to get the word out that he has too many similarities to George Ryan to be trusted by the people of Illinois.”
Tobin continued his successful Illinois Taxpayer Protection Tour with a stop in Lena later that evening.
Brady’s “crimes against the taxpayers” are summarized in his “Wanted” flyer.
